Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at thenookullswater@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We do not have a constant set price however a good guide is £150 per night.

I always want people to get a good deal and enjoy the cottage so I will often offer you a good price if you contact me directly with all the needed information.

Please note that private bookings will always work out cheaper.

Potential reasons for price changes :

Seasonal changes / Number of Guests / Number of Pets / Length of stay / Repeat customers .

We have parking for one car on site with the garden gate closed .  There is ample parking  for additional cars close to the cottage.  You can park on the opposite side of the hedge, up the road a short way near the junction.

We have a small enclosed Garden with enforced Hedges,  wooden gate with Mesh on and wooden paneling.  So far we have not had any dogs escape!   If you want a larger area for the dogs you can park on the opposite side of the hedge.

We have a High Chair for babies and a booster seat for toddlers.  There are some games for little ones in the dresser in the dining room.

We provide a travel cot ( Please mention when booking) but we ask for you to bring your own bedding for it.

We provide a towel for each guest and of course all bedding and spare warm throws are provided.    We have some towels for dogs and blankets too but would always encourage you to bring your own dog beds to make them feel at home!

Yes we offer 10% discounts for repeat guests . Sometimes more depending on the seasons.

There are several walks from the doorstep. The Eamont way is one , you can jump on it from the door and walk to Pooley Bridge for food and back again.

  • The Eamont Way (approx. 5.5 miles): A well-signposted, mostly flat route connecting Penrith to Pooley Bridge, passing through Sockbridge and Tirril, Yanwath Hall, and St. Michael's Church, Barton.
  • Charles Gough Way (Local Circular): A historical, low-level walk starting from the Queen's Head Inn in Tirril (adjacent to Sockbridge), passing the ancient Roman High Street road, Barton Church, and Thorpe.
  • Lowther Castle Loop (approx. 12 km / 7.5 miles): A moderate hike leading from Sockbridge and Tirril towards the impressive Lowther Castle.
  • Arthur's Pike & Loadpot Hill (Harder Hike): A more strenuous, high-level walk starting from the area, offering extensive views.
  • Ullswater Way Connection: Walk to Pooley Bridge (approx. 1-1.5 miles away) to join the 20-mile Ullswater Way loop.

I can provide fire wood for the first couple of nights for a fee of £20 . This incudes Kindling , Matches and Firelighters as well as a basket of logs which should last you 2 nights.  I need two days notice if you'd like some fire wood .

We do not offer EV charging at the house but there are several local garages that offer this.

Reghed / Ullswater Road Garage / WCF car park / North Lakes Hotel and Spa

I am always happy to discuss number of dogs, we don't really have a set limit as long as it's sensible.

We charge £10 per dog during your stay.

We have also has cats visit before and happy to allow cats as long as you bring your own litter trays etc.

The cottage is just 2 miles from the M6 so a good stop off point for people travelling up or down the country.

There is a train station in Penrith ( 2.5 miles) if you travelled this way I would advise grabbing a taxi from the taxi rank outside the station an it would take around 10 mins to get to the Nook.  There is the option of the 508 Bus which stops in the village and is just a 3 min walk from the Nook.

Once you are here you can use Taxis,  Walk by foot or take the Bus. There is a bus stop next to the village pub and the 508 takes you right through the popular Lake District villages and towns.
